Amsterdam-born artist Laura Welker is known for her “Hot Leg” candle holders, but also for her self-carved, often erotic candles. In her Berlin studio, she creates extravagant art objects from various materials. At the core of Laura Welker's work is a profound exploration of the body and physicality. These serve as the foundation for her art & design practice. Her wax work is exploring the material's inherent temporary nature. Whether the candle is lit or remains as an object is entirely up to the owner. Once these works leave her studio, she enjoys knowing that they adapt to someone else’s environment. All the objects she creates belong to a matriarchal society a world where hyper-female figures live freely without limitations, seducing and expressing themselves as they please.
